Week 6 landscapes

My ah-ha moment this week is that a landscape photo doesn't have to be a a whole scene it can just be a small snap shot of nature. When I think of landscapes it's always been a large picture, not the pieces. That being said I did mostly large shots just because dirty snow isn't that interesting but I did crop them down so the picture was what I wanted not everything that was in the shot to begin with.

This first picture is on the way back from Burlington, between exits 11 and 12 headed south. I wanted to try and capture the winding road and have it leading towards the mountains.

This one I took last fall in the back 40 of the farm, it reminds me of how much fun it was hanging out with my family, and the visiting relatives we were driving through the field with. Nothing like riding in the back of a pick-up and knowing that everything around you belongs to your family after having that be my dad's dream for so many years.

This is another one I took on the way home and I liked how the farm fit in the bottom third of the picture and even though there is a lot of white it shows up as different shades, and contrasts well with the beautiful blue sky.

This is my all time favorite this week, I love the way the lamp posts frame the road. I shot this out the windshield and cropped it to get rid of the wiper ect....

This one isn't quite in the rule of thirds but riding by at 65 makes it a little hard to line it up right. I really liked how the tree is so clear and sharp against the blue, blue sky and the shadows on the snow.

  1. Jenn,
My favorite one has to be the one of the farm. I love how even though the sky takes up 2/3 of you picture the farm still stands out to me. it was actually the first thing I noticed. Beautiful!

  2. Amanda, it is a nice picture that shows how nice it is to live in VT. A friend from Connecticut looked at the blog and said he needs to visit again soon because it's such a beautiful place with less man made clutter than around his house.

  4. Jenn, Nice work with your photos. You've captured framing with the photo of the car on the other side of the interstate as the tree in front seems to frame the vehicle that is travelling in the opposite direction. I like the lamp post photo as well. It has nice lines and the yellow in the road give a contrast to the snow/pavement! I have to say that I like the picture of the farm the best as the white-capped mountains seem so large in the background. Neat!

  5. I really wanted the focal point to be the mountains it just happened that the farm was there, one of those happy moments when things just fall into place. I loved how the snow contrasted with the color of the mountains, and the blue sky.

  6. I love the color scheme in the second photo it really gives a sense of harmony and flow and makes me think of spring. The last photo I like how you make the car the focus and have it centered and framed in the photo by the trees.

  8. Lisa, this is not our farm, it's a farm off the interstate between Williston and Waterbury, just happened to snap it when I was trying to get shots of the mountains, and than cropped it to highlight the farm and mountain.
